AI on board: beyond scanning with 2dA and MICROBOX

There is more to this scanner than meets the eye. Ahead of ARCHIVISTICA 2026, 2dA and MICROBOX shared a first glimpse of their joint development. Its central principle: AI on board, with local data processing.

The short video illustrates the idea of a scanner that is not only an image capture device, but also a place where processing happens. The teaser introduced the presentation that followed in Hof, Germany.

Processing close to the source

The central message of the teaser is straightforward: AI processing takes place locally. Archival images do not need to be sent to an external environment for this processing. This principle is central to the joint development by 2dA and MICROBOX.

A first glimpse of the collaboration

The video offered an early look at what the two teams had developed. The full presentation followed at the MICROBOX booth, stand 29, during ARCHIVISTICA 2026 at the Freiheitshalle in Hof. The exhibition took place from 29 September to 1 October.

From teaser to demonstration

The announcement has now been followed by the exhibition presentation. A separate news article covers the demonstration, local processing and conversations with archive professionals, providing the story behind this short preview.

Looking towards the Netherlands

The announcement also expressed our intention to demonstrate the development in the Netherlands after ARCHIVISTICA. To learn more about the collaboration or discuss what local processing could mean for your organisation, please get in touch.
