An archival record becomes more meaningful when you can see where it belongs. In a new video, Mila shows how 2dA brings archives, places and measurements together in a working 3D environment under development.
Development began with a virtual reading room. In the second episode, Mila visits the two bridges at Ewijk. Users can rotate a schematic model, select a carriageway, stay cable or pier, and open the archival records associated with that component.
A construction drawing gains a recognisable position in 3D. A historical water level can be viewed alongside a more recent measurement. Traffic and weather data add context to the conditions around the bridge.
What do we know about a structure? What has changed over the years? Which information is still missing for an informed assessment? Starting with a place or component offers a different way into the archive.
The video shows the working environment being developed by 2dA, using actual archival records and public measurements. The 3D model is schematic and the video shows recorded measurements. Maintenance questions still require additional inspection and expert assessment.
